Marvel’s The Gathering cards are an epic spectacle worth watching.
Throughout 2024, Magic: The Gathering has released a series of cross-branded sets featuring popular franchises like Lord of the Rings and Warhammer 40,000 through its Universes Beyond line. Of course, the famous card game now includes more brands, most notably Marvel, which got its first full reveal at New York Comic-Con before its release on November 4.
The Secret Lair Superdrop features 27 cards showcasing five Marvel heroes: Captain America, Iron Man, Storm, Black Panther, and Wolverine. (While Steve Rogers and Logan are the stars of their respective sets, their successors Sam Wilson and Laura Kinney also appear on some cards.) In addition to the instant cards and standard spells centered around each hero, the sets will also come with a new legendary creature card for each hero. For example, if you dealt combat damage to a player with Storm’s legendary prowess, the next instant or sorcery spell also deals storm damage. You can see the cards and their effects below.
Wizards of the Coast clearly stated that Magic: The Gathering has more Marvel in store. Spider-Man will headline a series of columns expected to arrive next year, and WOTC has teased that this Secret Lair drop is just the beginning of their partnership with Marvel. The press release stated: “Hasbro will continue to provide new ways for players to express their Marvel fandom through Magic: The Gathering’s Universes Beyond cross-branded products.”
The Marvel Magic: The Gathering crossover will come to fruition when the Secret Lair Superdrop goes on sale starting November 4 for $40 (non-foil) or $50 (foil in limited edition print).
