Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will swing without any DLC story

Last year, Insomniac Games released Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. It was a very exciting time when everything was said and done, leaving plenty of dangling story threads that left the window open for possible downloadable content exploration, but there is no follow-up in sight.

It was announced during the Marvel Games panel at New York Comic-Con that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will be released on PC on January 30, 2025, and specifically, there are no plans for any adventures after the launch. On the PlayStation Blog, Senior Community Manager Jason Espinoza confirmed that Insomniac “has no additional story content planned.” This is surprising for several reasons, first being that for the first time in the studio’s history, the game Spider-Man contained three post-launch story sets that highlighted side characters like Black Cat and Yuri Watanabe, as well as being set up also Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales. It wouldn’t be wrong to assume there is something in the works for this game.

Another reason that caught players off guard is Insomniac’s breach last year. A lot of information about this breach spread online, including speculations about expanding the Spider-Man 2 story, or some sort of similar standalone sequel like Miles. Since then, players have been convinced something is in the works, even though Insomniac itself has not hinted or alluded to anything of the sort. But this new PS Blog officially kills these dreams, as it only means one thing: Insomniac’s complete shift to Marvel Wolverine, which shortly after the breach stated that they will share more information when the time is right.

With Wolverine now the focus for Insomniac until its final release, Spider-Man fans will have to wait for the next chapter of the Spider-Man universe to be revealed. When will that be? That’s up to Insomniac and PlayStation to decide.
