Liquid Swords Team’s GTA-Like Game Looks Amazing in Official Screenshots.

Studio Liquid Swords, a Swedish studio created by former Avalanche Studios founder Christopher Sundberg, shared the first glimpses from its new project, a GTA-like open-world game, and the images look stunning.

When asked if these images were real, the official X account confirmed their authenticity. The game was developed using the Unreal Engine 5, while Avalanche historically used its own Apex engine in games like Just Cause, Mad Max, and Rage 2. Artistic Director Frédéric Lonne explained the engine choice in the following statement:

We decided to use Unreal Engine 5. Unreal has proven itself in producing high-quality AAA games, whether by Epic itself in the case of Fortnite or by other game studios worldwide shipping amazing games on Unreal. With Epic’s enhancements towards open-world development, we have full access to the source code, and the integrations with other software are excellent.

Liquid Swords was founded in December 2020, and Sundberg remembers the reason behind creating this new studio:

In December 2020, I set out on a journey to make a difference in the world of game development, which has been my professional and entertainment world since the early nineties. I want to make a difference in how games are made, how teams work, and how the creative process evolves.

While these images remind us of a realistic version of the GTA series from Rockstar, Liquid Swords is working on developing a role-playing and narrative-driven single-player adventure game based on an open world. However, it does not have an official name or release date announced yet.
