Limiting Data Usage on Android without Apps
Nowadays, Android phones are packed with many amazing features that we can use to enhance performance and improve user experience. For example, when browsing the internet using your phone’s data, you want to make sure you don’t exceed the data limit set by your telecom provider to avoid incurring additional charges. Here comes the feature that allows you to set a data limit on Android to prevent exceeding your data package without the need for any additional apps. In this article, we will discuss how to set a data limit on an Android phone easily and quickly, guaranteed as it is a built-in feature and does not require any third-party apps.
The idea is very simple, where we will use the basic settings of the Android phone to receive a warning when your data usage reaches a certain level that you specify. The phone will then disconnect from the internet when it reaches a second specified point. You can set two points: one for a warning when your data consumption is high, and the other to stop internet usage on the phone directly. Here is how you can do it easily:
1- Go to the device settings “Settings” as shown in the following image:
2- Then go to “Data Usage” under “Wireless & Networks” as shown in the following image:
3- You will then see a screen displaying your data consumption over a specified period of time, with each app’s data usage listed below as shown in the following image:
4- You will notice a line in this chart labeled “Warning,” which indicates the data amount that will trigger a warning when you approach it. It is recommended to set this line slightly below your data package limit, e.g., 1 gigabyte, so you are alerted in advance to reduce data usage and avoid exceeding your data package as shown in the following image:
5- To set a data limit on the phone, activate the “Set mobile Data limit” option under “Mobile data traffic” and you will receive a message informing you that your phone will automatically stop data when reaching this limit. It is recommended to set the limit slightly below your data package to account for variations in data usage calculation between the service provider and the phone as shown in the following image:
6- You will see another line appear alongside the warning line, which is the limit line. It should be set higher than the warning line, so you are alerted first and then the data is stopped. It is advisable to set this limit slightly below your data package, for example, before 50 megabytes, to ensure you do not exceed your data package as shown in the following image:
This method is very simple, but it could be the best solution to prevent exceeding your internet data package and save money that you might spend unknowingly. Additionally, it is a simple method that does not require any additional apps that could affect the device’s speed and battery and even consume data as well.
