It seems that the digital Xbox Series X and 2TB edition include unannounced improvements.

Yesterday, Microsoft announced that the Xbox Series X Digital Edition and Galaxy Black are now available in several global markets. However, it seems that these devices come with some improvements that Microsoft didn’t tell us about.

These two new models, the Xbox Series X All-Digital and the 2TB Special Edition, appear to feature a miniaturized version of the processing chip and some hidden upgrades that make them better than the original model.

This information was revealed in a new video shared on YouTube today, where Austin Evans took a closer look at the new models, opening them up to provide a better insight into all the changes under the hood. One of the most important changes is the inclusion of a 6-nanometer SoC chip, capable of achieving the same processing speeds as the larger chip in the original Xbox Series X model but using slightly less voltage and therefore producing less heat. This makes changing the cooling solution from a vapor chamber to a traditional heat sink possible without any loss in performance.

The smaller SoC chip in the new Xbox Series X models leads to reduced power draw in both idle and gaming scenarios. According to tests conducted by Austin Evans, the launch model of Xbox Series X consumes around 61 watts while on the dashboard, while the All-Digital and Special Edition models consume 28 and 51 watts respectively.

When comparing power draw during gameplay, Forza Horizon 5 was used for comparison, with Austin finding that the launch model of Xbox Series X draws an average of 167 watts, while the All-Digital and Special Edition models draw 151 and 156 watts, respectively, under the same temperature and noise conditions. Although the differences are not huge, they can make a difference with heavy usage over the long term.
