Is this the reason employees are leaving Apple? Tim Cook earns 1400 times more than the average Apple employee income.
It seems that Apple is losing the talent it needs, especially at the moment. Recently, it was announced that Jeff Wilcox, leader of Apple Silicon and developer of the T2 security processor, has decided to leave Apple to join Intel to oversee the engineering of Intel System-on-a-Chip (SoC) designs.
This was the latest high-profile departure, and although there are certainly various factors at play in this phenomenon, the truth is that amid the various company exits of employees, the CEO’s earnings at Apple are causing a stir.
A recent report released by Apple revealed that the CEO of Apple earns 1447 times the average employee salary at the company.
During this week’s earnings call, Apple announced that the average annual salary for employees was $68,254, a respectable figure but incomparable to the nearly 100 million dollars Cook added to his wealth.
The average salary at Apple in 2020 was $57,583, with the salary ratio to Cook being 256.
Specifically, according to the report, it is estimated that the Apple CEO received a salary of $3 million in 2021, plus $82.3 million in stock incentives, $12 million to meet goals, and $1.4 million for air travel, retirement plans, insurance premiums, and more.
In this way, estimates indicate that Tim Cook received a total of 98.7 million dollars, well surpassing the 14.8 million dollars received in 2020.
These numbers were released at a time when Apple seems to be struggling to retain its talent, with “salary” potentially playing a role in more departures.
