iPhone 16 Facing Battery Life Issues: What We Know
Do you feel like the battery life has worsened since upgrading to iOS 18? If so, you’re not alone. Dozens of users have reported excessive battery drain, especially on the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro. But is there a solution? Unfortunately, not yet.
According to MacRumors, there is a long-term thread with hundreds of posts from users lamenting the lack of battery life. One user reported their phone dropping from 100% to 60% by midday, despite minimal usage during that time. Another user reported battery drain of about 1% every five minutes. It’s clear this is not a good look for Apple.
This is not the first time iPhone has been criticized for its batteries. In 2022, we wrote about how the iPhone 14 was facing battery life issues. Ultimately, iOS 16 was blamed for this problem. Just a few months ago, Sonos also addressed an issue where their app was using more than average power.
In other words, it’s not uncommon for a new operating system update to cause some battery life issues, especially in the first 24 hours after installation when the phone is reindexing and checking everything. The problem arises when these issues are not resolved on their own, like what the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro seem to be facing.
There doesn’t seem to be an easy solution to this problem yet. One reason is that battery drain is a very difficult problem to tackle. Everyone uses their phone in different ways, and there are always variables that can affect battery life.
Users have tried disabling features that may have a more significant impact on battery life, such as the ProMotion 120Hz refresh rate, background app refresh, and more. The only promising solutions so far are the iOS 18.0.1 update and the beta version of iOS 18.1, but even these fixes have not resolved everyone’s issue.
