Installing Windows 8 or 10 on a USB flash drive and booting it directly from the flash drive

At first, this method is exactly as I read it, it is not a way to burn Windows on a flash memory, but to install a version of Windows 8.1 or Windows 10 on a flash memory directly and use it on any computer and boot to Windows from the flash memory and use the flash memory as a Windows disk. There is a feature that many may not know about called Windows To Go, which allows you to install a Windows version on a flash memory and boot to it directly. Today, we will use a well-known program that allows us to use this feature and install Windows from your ISO file directly to a flash memory in a simple step that we will explain and clarify.

Everyone is familiar with the program Rufus as a program for burning Windows on a USB, but what you may not know is that in the latest version of this program, an excellent feature has been added. You should download the latest version of the program, and you can install Windows through the Windows To Go feature directly to the flash drive for Windows 8.1 and Windows 10 versions, and this method is very easy.

To update the program on your device, download the latest version from the official website of the program, install it, then run the program, and now all you have to do is select the ISO Image, then click on the icon next to it and choose the Windows ISO file from your device, and you will see the option for Windows To Go, select it. Then click on Start.

Now, wait until the Windows installation process on the flash drive is complete, then you can restart the device and set it to boot from the flash memory, and you will find that Windows runs directly from the flash memory. Certainly, this method is unique, but note that this method works if your device is running Windows 8, 8.1, or 10, and it also installs Windows from these three on the flash memory, as Windows 7 is not supported by the program.

We tested the method using a 32GB USB 3.0 flash drive, which is what we recommend, but for a 16GB flash drive it will also work well. However, note that USB 3.0 will be much better as the flash drive is faster in handling data on the flash drive, while USB 2.0 flash drives will not give you good efficiency at all.
