How to use multiple Google accounts on your Android phone
Undoubtedly, without Google accounts, Android devices lose a significant part of their value. This account and the Android system complement each other. Contrary to what many may think, fortunately, it is possible to use more than one Google account on the same device, whether it is a phone or a tablet, as long as it runs on Android. Most likely, you are currently benefiting from the Google account registered on your Android device, even though it is possible to use an Android phone without a Google account. In addition to a personal Google account, there are accounts dedicated to work, through which you can access documents, emails, and all your work files. If you are one of those who believe in the need to use only one Google account and think that you are forced to use your personal account for work or vice versa, continue reading the following lines to correct this mistaken belief!
Adding More than One Google Account to an Android Phone
Firstly: The Importance of Adding a Google Account to the Phone
Google controls all Android devices with its products. This is simply because it is the developer of this famous system. Products and tools like Gmail, Google Meet, Drive, YouTube, Play Store, and Google Docs cannot be used without having a Google account, which can be considered as a gateway to these products. Most likely, even iPhone users have accounts on Google. If you are not using these accounts on your phone, you will need them on your tablet, computer, TV, or even PlayStation; all these services have been conquered by Google and its indispensable services.
Secondly: The Difference between Personal Google Account and Work Account
If you do not work for a company or an organization, it is most likely that you are using a personal Google account. However, many students use professional accounts/work accounts, as we will see later. Personal Google accounts are those found on our phones and various Android devices that we use for everyday purposes like watching YouTube, using Google Maps, downloading apps from the Play Store, or even sending and receiving emails.
On the other hand, there is a different type of Google account called “Google Workspace” accounts. These accounts are usually used by employees working for a company or organization, but that does not mean that other people do not use them. Universities use these accounts and give them to their enrolled students. Unlike personal Google accounts that end with “Gmail.com,” these professional accounts are followed by “Company/Organization.com,” where “Company” and “Organization” represent the name of the company or organization.
Professional Google accounts (work accounts) have the same features as personal accounts and also additional features, such as the ability for people – like managers or Admins – to remotely control and manage the account. For example, an employer may disable your access to YouTube from your professional account. In addition to all this, there are more features that are missing from personal accounts, such as the ability to schedule meetings with Google Calendar, and more.
Thirdly: Using More than One Google Account on Android
To add more than one Google account on any Android device, go to the “Settings” app, either from the icon on the home screen or by tapping on the gear icon (⚙️) after pulling down the status bar from the top edge of the screen. Then scroll down to the “Google” section to view the settings of the currently registered account. Now, all you have to do is click on the account name or the arrow button pointing to the left (as indicated in the image above).
A new window will pop up, choose “Add another account” to display the login page with a Google account. In the “Email or phone” box, enter the email or phone number associated with the account you want to add, then press “Next.” Enter the password in the designated password box, then press “Next” again. If two-step verification is enabled, you will be prompted to add a verification code, then complete the process. Otherwise, click “I agree” to Google’s terms, of course, and you will notice that the new account has been added.
You can then switch between accounts in any of the various Google apps, whether Gmail, Play Store, Google Search, or Google Maps, by clicking on the circular profile picture at the top, then clicking on the downward arrow button (as indicated in the image) next to the current account name, then clicking on the second account name to switch to it immediately.
To remove one, go to Settings, then “Google,” then “Manage Accounts on this Device,” and click on the account you want to use Google services with or click on “Remove Account” if you want to delete it from your Android device.
By now, you have learned about Google accounts, their importance, the difference between personal and professional accounts, their uses, and how to add more than one Google account on Android devices, switch between them, and delete them. You are now ready to make the most of Google services with more than one account.
