How to Restrict or Disable Comments on Facebook Posts

Every day, we Facebook users share our thoughts and daily lives by posting pictures, videos, texts, and more. Facebook helps bring people closer together, bridging distances between individuals who may be far apart in the world. Whether you live in Canada and your friend lives in Egypt, you can still stay connected through sharing on Facebook! However, Facebook is not just a place filled with positivity. It is also filled with individuals who share hurtful and negative comments towards each other.
Because everything you share online becomes available to others without any significant restrictions, anyone can comment on your posts. This has led to an increase in negativity, criticism, cyberbullying, and other negative forms of communication on Facebook. To prevent these unwanted incidents and regain control over your posts, it is important to know how to restrict or disable comments on Facebook.

How to Restrict Comments on Your Personal Posts on Facebook

Generally, you can choose to manage comments on your posts using the Facebook app on your phone or the web version on your computer. For restricting comments using the Facebook app: Start by going to the Facebook post you want to restrict comments on, then click on the three dots in the top corner of the post. Now, select the option “Who can comment on your post?” and choose one of the three options that appear. For example, you can choose “Friends” or “Friends of friends and tagged profiles” to increase comment restrictions. Finally, click “Done” to confirm the action.
For restricting comments using the web version of Facebook: The process requires a few more steps. Log in to Facebook from your browser, click on the inverted triangle at the top, then click on “Settings & Privacy” and go to “Settings” and “Privacy”. From here, select “Public Posts” in the sidebar menu, then click on “Public post comments” and choose who is allowed to comment on your posts, whether it’s public, friends of friends, or friends. That’s all you need to do to restrict comments on your posts as you see fit.

How to Disable Comments in a Facebook Group

Facebook allows group administrators to completely disable comments on posts in a Facebook group, unlike personal posts. To do this, select the post you want to disable comments on, click on the three dots in the top corner of the post, then select “Turn off commenting”. Facebook will immediately disable the comments section on the post, while old comments will remain visible under the post.
In conclusion, Facebook limits your full control over your personal posts. For this reason, you cannot completely disable comments on your posts. However, you can restrict who can comment on your posts, which is great for your peace of mind! Nevertheless, Facebook allows you to turn off comments completely on posts in a Facebook group where you are an admin.
