How to reset a forgotten Windows password using the official method

Usually, some Windows users set a password for the system to protect it in case of theft or unauthorized access. Microsoft automatically sets up this security feature when you register your computer during the installation of Windows 8 or Windows 10. However, you may forget this password due to being away from the computer for a long time or due to a scenario that prevents you from remembering the password, thus preventing you from accessing Windows and using it. We have previously provided a method on how to bypass the Windows 10 password and access Windows, but it may be complex and unofficial, yet effective so far. Let me now discuss the official method from Microsoft to reset the login password in case of forgetting it.

So, if you cannot access your computer due to forgetting the password, you need another device, either a computer or a phone, to set a new password that will allow you to easily log in. This process requires knowing the email associated with your Microsoft account or the phone number registered with the account. If you know either of them, it will make things much easier for you to reset the password using the following steps.

After acquiring another computer or phone that can access the internet, go to this link (account.live.com/password/reset). Upon entering, you will see a page with three available options to solve the problem, but if you forgot the password, you should select the “I Forgot My Password” option. This will be followed by attempts to set a new password. Now, click Next.

In the second step, you will be asked to enter the email associated with your Microsoft account or alternatively, enter the phone number you provided when creating the account in Microsoft for identity verification and password recovery. After entering the email or phone number, you will need to enter the CAPTCHA code and then click the Next button at the bottom.

Now, the only remaining step is verifying your identity through either adding the email address again or choosing the text message option. Upon choosing the latter, if you have activated your Microsoft account with a phone number, it will prompt you to specify the last 4 digits, and then a message with a code will be sent to the phone for you to enter on the page before setting a new password. Once you have set the new password, you can use it to easily log into your computer.

Although the method is easy, it is necessary, especially when unable to follow the steps outlined in the article “How to Bypass Windows 10 Password and Access Windows.” This serves as an alternative, especially since the problem is significant and may force you to reinstall Windows. However, I think that with two methods available, you can easily overcome the problem, but it is recommended to try the method presented in this article first since it is the official one.
