How to prevent Android screen from turning off while using the phone

There’s nothing more annoying than your phone screen turning off while reading an article or post on one of your favorite apps. The default settings require the screen to shut off after 30 seconds of inactivity or not touching the screen, which can be frustrating. Although you can adjust the screen timeout settings, this can significantly impact battery life and be a hassle to constantly change. Users can utilize their phone’s sensors to prevent screen shutdown during reading – let me tell you how to avoid your phone screen turning off!

Preventing Phone Screen Shutdown

Enabling Keep Screen On While Viewing Feature [For Samsung Phones]

Samsung offers an exclusive feature called “Smart Stay” or “Keep Screen On While Viewing” that prevents the screen from turning off while reading or watching videos. This feature activates the front camera to detect the device’s position and check for user interaction. Enabling this feature may increase battery consumption due to constant front camera activity, which some may consider a privacy violation.

To activate this feature, go to “Settings,” then to “Display,” and select the “Screen timeout” option. Enable “Keep Screen On While Viewing.” If you can’t find this option, navigate to “Advanced Features” in the settings, scroll down, click on “Motions and Gestures,” and enable “Smart Stay.”

Using KinScreen App to Track Phone Movement

For other Android phones without built-in features like Samsung, you can prevent screen shutdown by using the KinScreen app. This app monitors the Accelerometer Sensor in your phone to ensure the screen never turns off while you are using the device.

When you launch KinScreen for the first time, it will ask for permission to change system settings. Grant permission and explore different ways to keep the screen on during use. You can make the screen stay on by tracking motion, waving over the proximity sensor, or holding the phone at a certain angle.

KinScreen also allows you to prevent screen shutdown when using specific apps. Simply activate the “While using” option and select the apps you want to keep the screen on for. Make sure to calibrate the sensors it relies on for accuracy.
