How to find the original Windows serial on the laptop even after formatting the hard drive
In previous topics, we presented several ways to find the original serial number for the Windows installed on your laptop. Laptops, when purchased, may come with a completely original version of Windows. All you need to do is find the serial number and save it for life so that you can reinstall Windows whenever needed. We have already reviewed a method to retrieve the Windows serial from a non-working device, so you can find the Windows serial even if Windows is not working. However, we received a recurring inquiry from a follower, Medhat Saeed, who formatted the hard drive completely and does not know the Windows serial, nor does he have a copy of Windows. What should he do?
Now, let’s assume the worst-case scenario, that this person formatted the hard drive and installed a Windows 7 version. In this case, you no longer know the serial and don’t have the Windows anymore. Your relationship with the original Windows that came with the laptop has completely ended! However, wait, we have a solution for this problem through checking your laptop, specifically the back of the laptop, where you will find a Microsoft sticker with the Product Key for Windows as shown in the image below.
Note that some laptops do not have the sticker on the back, but it may be included in the laptop accessories, whether in the laptop’s box or in the laptop’s papers. So, search for this sticker. If you have a Windows CD that came with the laptop, install it and activate it using the serial. If you don’t have it, don’t worry because we have already presented topics on downloading all original versions of Windows, including Windows 7, from Microsoft servers. After downloading and installing, activate the version using the original serial.
Another method that is not guaranteed
In general, laptop manufacturers do not store the serial numbers of sold devices, but in some cases, it may be worth trying. By entering the official website of the laptop’s manufacturer and searching for an email or a number, send the laptop’s information as shown below that is listed on your laptop or in the laptop accessories:
- Model Name :
- Product Number :
- Serial No :
Or even take a picture of this sticker on the laptop directly and send it via email to them. They may actually email you the Windows serial for your device. Its success is not guaranteed, but as mentioned, it is worth trying if you have exhausted all other options and cannot afford a new serial, especially since the cost of this serial can be in the laptop’s cost and can reach or exceed 300 Egyptian pounds, which is 50 dollars or more. So, the attempt may be worthwhile.
