How to download iOS 16 beta update now on your iPhone
During the WWDC 22 conference, Apple unveiled the next update to its smartphone operating system, iOS 16, with many features that we previously reviewed in the conference summary. There will be other articles where we will cover the important features in detail. However, the launch of iOS 16 today does not mean that if you check the “Software Update” page in your iPhone settings, you will find a notification for the new update. The stable version will not be available until sometime this fall, most likely in September, coinciding with the announcement of the iPhone 14 series. But if you are determined to download the update and try out the new features now, you can download the beta version of iOS 16 and install it on your iPhone by following the steps outlined below.

It goes without saying that beta versions are inherently unstable, especially when the operating system is still in the early beta stage, as installing them can lead to issues such as fast battery drainage, overheating, and other unexpected problems. Therefore, it is advisable to perform the following steps on a test device or secondary phone, and if not available, you can download the “Public Beta” version of iOS 16 at your own risk. Note that this version usually offers a certain level of stability compared to the Developer Beta versions. In any case, you can rely on the iMyFone Fixppo tool, which will allow you to downgrade your iPhone from iOS 16 to 15 and older versions easily if you encounter any problems.
Backup Before Updating to iOS 16
To download the beta version of iOS 16, you need to sign up for the Apple Developer Program as the first beta version is only available to developers. Creating a developer account on the Apple Developer Center requires a membership fee of $99 annually. However, registering with a developer account is not necessary to download the Public Beta version of iOS 16, and we explain how to do it in this article. But it is important to start by backing up your data stored on the iPhone now before doing anything. If you go directly to iOS 16 and something goes wrong, reverting to the latest stable version of iOS 15 will result in the loss of all your data.
So, make sure to create a backup on iCloud Backup or locally on your computer through iTunes, which is the preferred method. You connect the iPhone to the computer and then launch iTunes. Then click on the miniature iPhone icon at the top, then click on the “Back Up Now” button and choose whether to back up encrypted or not (it is recommended to choose the encrypted backup to ensure all data is backed up), and wait for the process to complete.

Downloading and Installing the iOS 16 Beta version
The easiest way to update your iPhone to iOS 16 now is by downloading the Public Beta profile from the Apple website. In this case, registering with a developer account is not necessary. After backing up your data, open Safari on your iPhone. Here I mean specifically Safari and not any other browser, as profile files cannot be downloaded on the iPhone except through Safari. Then, go to the Apple Beta Software Program website, log in with your Apple ID, then scroll down and click on the “Download profile” button. When a confirmation message appears, click “Allow” to start downloading the file immediately.
Once the file is downloaded, go to “Settings,” then “General,” and scroll down and click on “VPN & Device Management.” You will find the profile you just downloaded there, click on it, then click “Install” at the top left and enter your iPhone password.
A licensing agreement and Apple’s terms for the iOS Beta version will appear, if you agree, click on the “Install” button and confirm the action by clicking install again to start installing the profile. Afterwards, a pop-up message will appear asking you to restart the iPhone to apply the changes, click on “Restart” and wait for the phone to restart.
After restarting the iPhone, go back to “Settings,” then “General,” and click on “Software Update,” where the iOS 16 Public Beta update should appear. Now click on “Download and Install” and choose either download only or download and install automatically from the menu, then enter the password and wait for the process to complete. The time taken largely depends on the internet speed, as you can see, the update is quite large (4.5 gigabytes). After that, it will take some time to prepare the update. Finally, the installation will take another 10 or 15 minutes or so. Once it’s done, you’ll be ready to explore the new features of the iOS 16 update completely.
