Though this may be frustrating, there’s no need to panic (or cancel your subscription!). Turning subtitles on and off is somewhat simple once you know where to find the option.
Disney+ is the home of all things Disney, including both new original programming and its classic catalog. Thanks to the acquisitions they’ve made in recent years, it’s also home to Star Wars, Marvel, and National Geographic. This means there’s plenty to love here for what you’re paying for the streaming service. Closed captioning makes it easier to understand what’s being said on screen and is a great tool for anyone with auditory processing issues, but it can be a hindrance for some viewers.

Note: Unless otherwise indicated, the first step for all of these devices is to launch the Disney+ app and select a show or movie to watch. If you don’t have the Disney+ app, visit the app store on your device to download it for free. Computer/Mac instructions apply to all browsers.

Step 1: While playing the show or movie, tap your screen.
Step 2: A menu icon should appear on the left. When it does, select it.
Step 3: Your audio or subtitle options will appear. Select the off option under Subtitles.
How to Turn Off Subtitles on Disney+ on iPhone and iPad
Step 1: While playing the show or movie, tap your screen.
Step 2: A variety of icons should appear in the top right corner. When they do, select the rightmost icon.
Step 3: Your preferred audio or subtitle options will appear. Select the off option under Subtitles.
Step 4: Press the X icon in the top right to continue playing.
How to Turn Off Subtitles on Disney+ on Roku
Step 1: Once you’ve selected a show or movie to watch, select Audio & Subtitles from the description page.
Step 2: Choose off for subtitles.
Step 3: Press the back button to exit the description page.
Step 4: Hit play to start the movie or show.
How to Turn Off Subtitles on Disney+ on the Latest Roku Devices
If you have a newer Roku device, you can also turn off subtitles while watching the movie or show.
Step 1: While playing the show or movie, press up or down on your remote control.
Step 2: Choose Audio & Subtitles.
Step 3: Your preferred audio or subtitle options will appear. Select disable option under Subtitles.
How to Turn Off Subtitles on Disney+ on Google Chromecast
Along with Chromecast, these instructions will also work to turn off subtitles on Disney+ with Google TV.
Step 1: While playing the show or movie, select or move your mouse on your screen. If you’re using Google TV, press the bottom button on your remote control.
Step 2: A menu icon should appear. When it does, scroll over or select it.
Step 3: Your preferred audio or subtitle options will appear. Select off under Subtitles.
Step 4: Choose yes or X icon to continue playing.

Step 1: While playing the show or movie, click on your remote control.
Step 2: A menu icon should appear. When it does, select it.
Step 3: Your preferred audio or subtitle options will appear. Select off under Subtitles.
Step 4: Click on the back button on your remote control to close the menu.
How to Turn Off Subtitles on Disney+ on Apple TV
Step 1: If you’re already watching a show or movie, drag up or down on your remote control to change settings while playing. If you’re using Apple TV 2nd or 3rd generation, long-press the center button down on your remote control.
Step 2: Choose Settings icon in the bottom right corner of the screen.
Step 3: Information, audio, and subtitle menu will appear. Scroll to Subtitles and select off.
