How to connect to the internet from your computer via Bluetooth on your phone
In a previous topic, we reviewed connecting to Wi-Fi from a computer even if it does not support it. The method was useful in case you wanted to make the computer pick up a Wi-Fi signal if the only means of connection was via an Ethernet cable. This can be done with the help of the Internet sharing feature on your Android phone via a USB cable. This eliminates the need to purchase a USB Wi-Fi Adapter. In this topic, I will also inform you of the same process but through Bluetooth instead of a USB cable, so you can connect your computer to the Internet using your phone’s Wi-Fi signal or data. The Internet will be shared to the computer via Bluetooth. However, note that your computer needs to support Bluetooth in order to pair it with the phone.
The first step you need to take is to enable Bluetooth on the laptop or computer if it supports it and make sure it can detect nearby devices. To check this on Windows 10, go to Settings, then to Devices, and on the left side, click on Bluetooth. Then make sure to activate Bluetooth on the right side.
Now, go to your phone and enable the Internet connection method you want to share with the computer, whether it’s Wi-Fi or phone data. Then activate Bluetooth and scan for nearby devices. Your computer, which you want to share the Internet with, should appear. When that happens, click on the computer’s name.
A window will appear on both screens (phone screen and computer screen) displaying the Passcode. The Passcode should match what is shown on the phone or computer screen. If it does, press Yes, and once done, the phone will be paired with the computer. Let’s now learn how to configure the phone to connect the Internet from the computer or laptop via the phone.
Using your phone, go to Settings, then Tethering and Mobile Hotspot, and then enable Bluetooth tethering. This will allow your phone to share the Internet with Bluetooth-paired devices. Since you have paired the phone with the computer, let’s now learn how to share the Internet with it via Bluetooth.
On the computer or laptop, go to Control Panel, then click on Hardware and Sound, then go to Devices and Printers. Here, you will find the devices that the computer has paired with via Bluetooth. Right-click on the name of your phone, and from the dropdown menu, point the mouse cursor to Connect using and select Access point. A small window will appear indicating a successful connection.
Similarly, your phone will show a Tethering or hotspot active notification, indicating that the phone is now sharing the Internet with the computer or laptop. You can now browse the Internet on the computer using the phone’s Internet via Bluetooth.
