How to Add and Control Another User on Google Chrome Browser
We previously discussed what Guest mode in Google Chrome is, it is a useful feature for those who want to allow someone else to browse the internet on your device without accessing your personal information, hence it is called Guest mode. However, sometimes there might be another person using your computer, like your relatives, family members, or friends, and it might be difficult to always activate Guest mode for them, especially if their use is limited to internet browsing while you use Google Chrome.
In this article, we will show you how to create a new account for another user on the browser to be completely independent from your account and browsing activity. We will also explain how to supervise and monitor them, and control these other accounts if you are the owner of the device.
First, before adding a new account under supervision and parental control on Google Chrome, you need to create a Google account and link it to Google Chrome as the device owner. This will allow you to manage the accounts you add, monitor them, know the websites visited by other users, block specific websites, prevent them from installing certain applications and extensions, and enforce safe search feature. If you have already done this step and have a Google account linked to Google Chrome, let’s move on to the explanation steps directly.
After launching Google Chrome on your computer, click on the button containing your name in the top bar of the browser as shown in the image above. From the menu that appears, click on the option “Manage people” to open a pop-up window, then click on the “Add person” button.
After completing this step, you will need to specify the details of this new account. You will be asked to provide a name and select an icon or image for it from the available icons. After that, you need to select the “Supervise” option and specify your Google account or email. Then, click on the “Save” button to create or add another person to Google Chrome.
Now you will see two options at the bottom. You can click on the “OK GOT IT” button to keep your account in the browser, or click on the “Switch to” button to switch to the user under supervision. This will display a new window for the browser belonging to the other person.
Through this window, the other person can browse the internet normally, visiting websites and browsing the internet. Note that the window will have a different frame from the regular Google Chrome browser, and if you select the option “Create a desktop shortcut for this user” during the account customization process, you will see a shortcut on the desktop for the browser of the user you added.
Now let’s move on to the most important step, which is how to monitor and manage this new account. Initially, it is simple. All you have to do is go to this link Google.com/manage, where you will find the name of the person you added. Simply click on their name from the left menu, and you will see a control panel on the right side. Under the “Permissions” section, you can either block a specific website, allow only certain websites to be browsed, block applications and extensions from being installed on the browser, and activate the SafeSearch feature for safe searching.
At the bottom, you will also find the “Activity” menu, which displays the browsing activity of this person in full. You can view all the websites they have recently visited in an organized manner by timing. You can select a specific day to see the websites this person visited on that day. Through this control panel, you can perform various actions to manage this person’s account without them knowing, which is useful for parental control or for one of your family members. This is the purpose of creating a supervised account in Google Chrome.
