Hackers launch attacks on Israeli water system in order to poison it.
This is evident in a new attack on the Israeli water network, the system that was already targeted in April when intruders attempted to modify chlorine levels in the water.
Now there are two more cyber attacks that have affected Israeli water management facilities, although they did not cause any harm to the organizations that were attacked.
On one hand, agricultural water pumps in the Upper Galilee were targeted in an attack, which could have resulted in significant losses due to the inability to automatically irrigate vast crop fields.
On the other hand, water pumps in the Central District of Judea were also the target of an attack, according to reports on zdnet.
In both cases, the issue was promptly and independently resolved by the local residents. However, as a new wave of attacks on the country’s water system emerges, it is clear that unauthorized access to their platform is happening. In the April attack, there could have been a slight poisoning in the water of local residents, whereas this time there would be more economic losses.
One of the first measures implemented was a password change alert sent by the Israeli National Computer Directorate (INCD), mainly for the operating systems and chlorine control devices.
As for the potential perpetrators, they are believed to be hackers from Iran, but investigations are still ongoing, so it is too early to draw conclusions.
