GTA 5 Remains the Queen of the Streams even after more than 10 years.
Despite over a decade since its release, GTA 5 continues to dominate and compete with the latest releases in this generation. This is not limited to game sales on various platforms where the game remains in the top ten rankings, but also on various streaming platforms.
According to the latest statistics on game streams around the world on different specialized platforms, Grand Theft Auto 5 has been crowned as the most popular game in terms of views on these platforms.
GTA 5 Reigns Supreme in Streams
In a report highlighting streaming performance during the third quarter of 2024, Steam Charts revealed that GTA 5 garnered 533.3 million viewing hours. The game was the most popular on the famous streaming platform Twitch as well as on platforms Nimo and Kick. The competition did not stop there, as it could have also been the most popular game on YouTube, but was surpassed by ML:BB and the recent e-sports event MPL, landing it in third place there.
Also noteworthy was that all the games that gained significant fame on various streaming platforms were due to their support for e-sports. This was not the case for GTA 5, which has traditional online gameplay modes, yet it remained a strong competitor for all e-sports and competitive games.
However, the famous “real life” mode GTA RP may have played a major role in attracting millions of views on global streaming platforms.
Additionally, statistics from Streams Charts revealed that in the last quarter, the adventure game Black Myth: Wukong was the most popular new game in terms of live streaming. It garnered 39.3 million viewing hours, while EA Sports FC 25 took the second spot with 14.7 million viewing hours.
There is no doubt that after all these years since the release of GTA 5, many players and even ordinary people still enjoy watching streams of the game on various streaming platforms, and these numbers are a clear indication of that. However, we expect these numbers to start declining once GTA 6 is released, expected in the spring of 2025, to be the only title capable of displacing Grand Theft Auto 5 from the top rankings it has held for the past decade.
