Google warns uBlock Origin users of imminent changes to Chrome.

Google has issued a warning to users of the popular ad-blocking extension uBlock Origin on Chrome browser, indicating that the extension may soon be banned due to its non-compliance with the new specifications of Manifest V3 project.

According to the extension’s page on the Chrome store, the warning suggests that this extension may not be supported in the near future, due to its failure to follow the best practices adopted for Chrome extensions. Google aims to enhance the privacy and security of its users through these changes.

Google began warning users about these changes since last August, stating that support for Manifest V2 specifications currently used by the extension will gradually cease. The company urged users to switch to alternatives that support Manifest V3, such as the lightweight version uBlock Origin Lite.

However, many users express concerns about losing the advanced features offered by the current version of the extension, confirming that they may have to switch to other browsers if uBlock Origin is disabled.

In this context, the developer of the extension, Raymond Hill, explained that the lightweight version uBlock Lite is not a complete alternative, as it provides limited functions compared to the original version. Despite these limitations, the extension will remain available on browsers like Firefox and Brave, which continue to support Manifest V2.
