Google officially launches its system Android 10

After several experimental versions released monthly by Google, the company has officially announced the launch of its new Android 10 system for its Pixel phones. This was expected from the company, as we are used to seeing the new versions of Android first launched with Pixel phones, and then made available on other phones like Samsung, OnePlus, etc. So, starting today, owners of these phones, which we will mention later on, can update their phones to the latest version of Android.

On another note, with this official launch, it could be a hopeful sign as Android 10 will now come to other phones faster than before. In this context, Google has confirmed that it is working with a number of partners to launch or upgrade their devices to Android 10 before the end of the current year.

Which Pixel phones will now receive Android 10?

In short, all Google Pixel phones will receive the latest version of Android, as follows:

  • Pixel.
  • Pixel XL.
  • Pixel 2.
  • Pixel 2 XL.
  • Pixel 3.
  • Pixel 3 XL.
  • Pixel 3A.
  • Pixel 3A XL.

Key Features of Android 10:

There are quite a few key features in Android 10, and it is worth mentioning them now one by one. Among the key features, there is the new and completely different gesture system that is unlike any gestures we have seen in previous versions of Android. These gestures are similar to the ones found in the latest iPhone models.

Additionally, app permissions have become stricter with new privacy controls, as well as a new focus mode that aims to disable apps that distract you, especially during work time. Moreover, notification controls have been simplified more than ever, with integrated parental control features. Most importantly, there is the system-wide dark mode.

One of the most important updates for most users will be the Project Mainline feature, which will allow Google to release important security patches directly through the Google Play Store instead of waiting for manufacturers and companies to distribute them. It is worth noting that this feature will only be available on phones that come with Android 10 by default, as well as Pixel phones only. Phones that have been upgraded from Android 9.0 to Android 10 will not receive this feature, and this may change in the future.

However, not all Android 10 features are available for Pixel phone owners, for example, the new focus mode is currently not available on the stable version, but on the beta versions. There is another key feature called “Live Caption,” which will allow users to receive real-time captions for any audio or video on their phones. Unfortunately, this feature will only be released later this year and will be available on Pixel phones first and then on other brands.

In the same context, Google has indicated that “all pre-installed apps will support the system-wide dark mode feature, but not all of them. For example, the Gmail app will not receive this feature until later this month.

At the end of the day, more than anything else, the feature that has attracted the most attention in Android 10 is the new gesture navigation system. As mentioned, it works exactly like it does on iPhones, so on both sides of the phone (right and left), gestures will play a role in navigating between tools, apps, and phone pages. The traditional three-button system will still be a good option as many users prefer it.

Also, the tenth version of Android is the first version that does not include a dessert name. Google says this makes the system more inclusive globally and easier to understand for all users of all languages. As it is understood, numbers are better than words as the latter have synonyms that vary from country to country or from language to language.

How to get the Android 10 update?

Google usually releases major operating system updates over a few days, so your Pixel phone may not receive a notification of an update. You can check for the update by going to Settings, then System, and finally System Update.

As known, other Android device manufacturers will announce their preliminary plans for upgrading to this version separately, and it may take weeks or months for the upgrade to reach many non-Pixel devices.

Final word:

Once again, we have focused on the news and not delved into the detailed features of Android 10, so it will be our duty to mention them in upcoming posts. We will certainly delve into the system details and explain each feature separately.
