Google launches Android 15 on Pixel phones with advanced security and privacy features.
Google has started rolling out the Android 15 update to compatible Pixel devices. While Google released the open-source version of the software last month, the commercial version of the system is now reaching phones and tablets.
As usual, Pixel devices are getting priority in receiving the update, with Google launching the Pixel 9 series in August. Although Google typically releases system updates alongside its flagship phones, it did not happen this time.
The Android 15 update will arrive on eligible devices from other manufacturers in the coming months, and some manufacturers may rely on modified versions of the system.
One of the main features of the new update is enhanced security and privacy. Google introduces the “Theft Detection Lock” feature, which uses artificial intelligence to protect user data.
It adds additional layers of protection when removing the SIM card or disabling the “Find My Device” feature. Users can also set up a “private space” within Android 15 to hide sensitive apps and make them invisible to others.
The new features also include customizing the bottom bar on tablets and foldable phones, with the ability to pin it or hide it as needed. A new feature for multitasking apps allows users to save app pairs on the home screen for easy access with just one click, like using Google Drive and Gmail together.
Google also offers more options in the camera for third-party apps, such as precise control over the flash, as well as support for one-touch login via “password keys.”
Additionally, Google launched “Pixel Drop” today, which includes support for the “Theft Detection Lock” feature for devices running Android 10 and above.
