Google begins rolling out Android 15 with enhanced security and privacy features for Pixel devices.
Google has announced the rollout of Android 15 for eligible Pixel devices after a period of waiting, as the system was announced earlier this year and is now reaching phones and tablets. It is customary for Pixel devices to receive these updates before others, as this new system is an important step towards improving security and privacy for users.
Google released the source code for Android 15 last month, allowing developers to begin preparing their apps for compatibility with the new system. Despite the delay in the update following the launch of the Pixel 9 series in August, Pixel devices are now the first to benefit from these important updates.
Android 15 primarily focuses on enhancing security, with Google introducing the “Theft Detection Lock” feature that uses artificial intelligence to protect personal data when the phone is stolen. In addition, there are enhanced authentication measures for greater data security, especially when removing a SIM card or disabling Find My Device feature.
Google has also added new options for users to create a private space within the system to hide sensitive apps from view, further enhancing privacy. For foldable devices and tablets, the new system provides greater flexibility through an easy toggle feature for the taskbar, giving users a more flexible and customizable user experience.
Additionally, Android 15 supports dual apps on the home screen, making it easier to perform multiple tasks such as file transfer between apps like Drive and Gmail. The system includes improvements in camera control for third-party apps, such as precise control of flash lighting, and a feature for one-time password login.
One interesting addition is the support for satellite messaging apps in Android 15, allowing users to send messages in emergency situations even without cellular networks or Wi-Fi availability.
Google has not forgotten about older Pixel devices, as the “Theft Detection Lock” feature is available for devices running Android 10 and newer, ensuring maximum protection for users.
