Google allows Parler app to return to Google Play Store after one year ban

Google allowed the social networking site Parler to return to its Play Store yesterday, after more than a year of the platform’s ban that is popular among conservatives following the Capitol riot.

Google pulled the Parler app from its store just days after the deadly attack on the US government headquarters on January 6, 2021, stating that it allowed “obscene content” that could incite further violence.

Parler became a refuge for right-wing extremists who claim they have been censored by other social media platforms like Twitter.

The Capitol building attack, partially fueled by misleading information online and violent rhetoric on sites like Parler, was carried out by extremist right-wing supporters of former President Donald Trump, who sought to overturn the results of the 2020 election he lost to Joe Biden.

Parler was allowed back into Google Play Store after meeting the requirements related to removing abusive posts and banning users who violate the app’s rules, according to Google.
