Ubisoft responds to report on Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown development team solution in French

Yesterday, a report surfaced indicating that Ubisoft has laid off the entire team behind Prince of Persia The Lost Crown due to weak sales, and they have also rejected the idea of developing a sequel to the game.

After this news spread, Ubisoft responded to the report regarding the dissolution of the Prince of Persia The Lost Crown development team. This was done through a statement sent by the French company to Eurogamer, confirming largely what was mentioned in the report – although they clarified that the game team still exists and is busy at the Ubisoft Montpellier development studio, although they are now working on « other projects that will benefit from their expertise. »

The Eurogamer report yesterday wasn’t entirely clear about the fate of the team members behind The Lost Crown game – which received positive feedback from critics upon its release this year, despite failing to achieve major success. The report also indicated that The Lost Crown game will not receive a sequel due to its commercial performance – a fact that Ubisoft did not deny today – stating that ideas for the second installment have been integrated into downloadable content (DLC) plans for the game.

Abdul Haq Al-Qaisi, the lead producer of Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, said:

« I am extremely proud of our team’s work and passion at Ubisoft Montpellier to create a game that has resonated with both players and critics, and I am confident in its long-term success. Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is now at the end of the post-launch roadmap with three free content updates and one downloadable content update released in September. We are now focusing on making the game available to more players: it was recently launched on Steam and will be available on Mac this winter. »

« Most of the team members who worked on the Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown game have transitioned to other projects that will benefit from their expertise. We know that players love this brand, and Ubisoft is excited to deliver more ‘Prince of Persia’ experiences in the future. »

One of these projects is, of course, the highly anticipated remake of Prince of Persia: Sands of Time by Ubisoft, set to be released in 2026 – around six years after it was originally announced.

It is not clear which projects at Ubisoft Montpellier the team behind The Lost Crown has joined, although the studio is still working on the long-awaited game Beyond Good & Evil 2 by Ubisoft.
