10 faits sur les coulisses du développement de Red Dead Redemption 2 et du contenu coupé que vous entendrez pour la première fois (partie 2 et dernière)

Whether it’s about designing playable virtual characters or members of the acting team, or even non-playable characters scattered in the world, well-designed characters that reflect the player’s feelings are one of the things that elevate good games to greatness. Red Dead 2 stands out with one of the best teams in the history of the industry, whether it’s Sadie Adler’s rough behavior and her refusal to play by the rules; Lenny Summer’s contemplative look at the cultural expansion outside the bubble that the gang is trying to live in; or Susan Grimshaw’s instinct towards taking care of the camp and protecting it, all of these moments make up some unforgettable moments in the game.

On the other hand, Arthur is easily the best-written protagonist in Rockstar’s history, alongside Roger Clark’s powerful voice acting, he is able to achieve all the emotional rhythms that the narrative designers wanted while being also convincingly flexible when it comes to player actions.

It can be said that Red Dead Redemption 2 is the jewel in the crown for Rockstar Games when it comes to realism, excitement, deep dramatic story, and unforgettable charismatic characters. And to deliver such a creative and precise artistic work, usually the work is not just done on the chapters and stages we saw in the 2018 game release alone, but a huge amount of content is developed that doesn’t make it into the final product due to constant modifications and changes throughout the development period. Now, let’s take a look at some of the cut content from the masterpiece of the American West that will remain timeless in the history of gaming.

Character Eliza

Originally, Eliza was supposed to be Arthur’s second lover and the mother of his deceased child Isaac, and there are many lines related to Eliza in the game files suggesting she was involved in at least one mission before being ultimately disposed of.

Missing Princess IKZ

The poster claiming a reward for finding the princess is in the game, but it’s impossible to find IKZ. However, it was discovered that IKZ has a model in the game and it was confirmed that you can find her originally somewhere in RDR2.

Mexico

This is more elusive, yes. Nuevo Paraiso was originally explorable at some point in RDR2 development, but it was eventually cut due to time constraints. The roads and landscapes of Nuevo Paraiso were primarily developed if you go out of bounds, as well as work on cities and more at some point with unique banners and a dedicated wanted level system by the authorities, in addition to some original soundtrack music still present.

Guarma Island

Guarma Island was initially planned to be much larger, with the ability to take a ferry at any time after Chapter 5 and return to the island. Guarma was fully cut as an open world area before the final release due to story changes and pacing issues, and a lot of code, art designs, and even pirate costumes were found here before being all removed in the final version.

John Marston’s Ending

John was supposed to look more similar to his counterpart in RDR1, with a classic outfit and a more accurate hairstyle, but that part was likely cut to implement the beard/hair growth system on both John and Arthur, so both of them were made to fit the new direction.

As shown in the pictures below, there is a lot of other cut content, from a general store in Emerald Ranch to swapping locations of Van Horn and Annesberg on the map and even the legendary Silverfin fish!
