Facebook to launch Instagram for children.
Thanks to a leaked statement made internally at Facebook, it has been revealed that the social network is planning to create a version of Instagram for children. The statement, made by Instagram’s product vice president, Vishal Shah, indicates that the plan is to introduce a “parallel” version of Instagram that can only be accessed by children.
The most relevant part of the leaked statement is as follows: “We have identified youth activity as a priority for Instagram, and for this reason, our main goal is to target the mentioned community. We are almost obliged to offer a parallel version of Instagram so that young people have their place.”
According to Facebook, in order to execute this idea, they will need to focus on two aspects. The first is to provide a safer and less toxic environment so that children do not feel harassed. This task will be extremely complex, as harassment is rampant on social networks.
The second goal they see from their perspective at Facebook is that this version is 100% dedicated to a younger audience, what does this mean? This version of Instagram cannot be accessed by anyone over a certain age “x” (information not clearly provided yet). Of course, its operation will be completely different from what Google offers with YouTube Kids.
This version of Instagram for children will cater to youth aged 6 to 13, although the age group may vary (it’s just an estimate). Facebook has not confirmed or denied this leak at the current time, but it is clear that the idea of offering a social network for a younger audience is a priority for the North American company.
Without adding much in this regard, if your child, younger brother, or niece uses Instagram and you want to be aware of what they are doing on their mobile phone, we recommend downloading KidsGuard Pro, the best app for monitoring a child’s phone.
