Explaining the Story of Silent Hill 2 in Detail – Part One
“In my disturbed dreams, I see that town. Silent Hill. You promised to take me there again someday, but you didn’t. Well, I’m there now, by myself, in our special place. I’m waiting for you…”
Afterwards, James explains in a voiceover that Mary is his wife, who sent him the letter. But there’s a small problem: Mary passed away three years ago due to an unspecified illness. Despite knowing that this doesn’t make sense, his deep sorrow makes him ignore any doubts; any chance to see her again is enough for him.
James reflects a little on what Mary meant by “our special place,” and concludes that she is referring to a park near the lake. With a destination in mind, but the road to the town blocked, James sets off on foot through a wooded path.
After a long walk, he reaches a cemetery, where he encounters a young woman looking at one of the graves. As James approaches, the woman jumps from her place, apologizing for startling her before asking her about the way to the town. She tells him there is only one road really, then warns him that there is something “wrong” in the town.
James reassures her that he will be cautious, but she responds with tension, defending herself, insisting she isn’t lying. James believes her, but tells her he will go to the town anyway. She asks him why, to which he replies that he is looking for someone important to him. The girl tells him she is looking for her mother, adding that she thought her brother and father would be there, but she couldn’t find them.
James wishes her luck in finding her family, and she responds with the same wishes, then he continues on his way to the town. And after walking a bit, he comes across a large blood stain in the middle of the street, and notices a strange figure staggering in the distance. Here, we encounter two things: a radio emitting a constant noise, and the figure James was following, which is later revealed to be a monster.
