Expansion of Elden Ring Shadow Of The Erdtree Boosts Bandai Namco’s Profits Significantly

At the beginning of this year, we witnessed the launch of the Elden Ring expansion, “Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree,” which quickly became the largest in FromSoftware’s history.

The commercial performance of Elden Ring, Shadow of the Erdtree, seems to have exceeded the publisher’s expectations. Bandai Namco revealed today that the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion continued to achieve excellent sales, contributing to an increase in the original game’s sales as well, thereby impacting the company’s profits and revenues.

As a result, Bandai Namco Entertainment revised the company’s revenue expectations for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2025, which were announced on August 8, 2024, and the consolidated forecasts for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2025, which were announced on May 9, 2024.

According to Bandai Namco, Shadow of the Erdtree has achieved great success in markets worldwide. Additionally, the expansion contributed to increased sales of the base Elden Ring game, which also performed well. Consequently, the company expects net sales, operating profit, recurring profit, and profit attributable to owners of the parent company for the second quarter (six months) of the fiscal year ending March 31, 2025, to significantly exceed the forecasts for that period, announced on August 8, 2024.

The consolidated forecasts for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2025, were revised from those announced on May 9, 2024. This review is based on second-quarter earnings that significantly exceeded previous expectations, along with current market conditions, sales trends, and marketing plans for products and services in the third quarter and beyond.

In summary, Bandai Namco raised its revenue expectations during the current fiscal year by an increase of 9.9% in sales and a 36.6% rise in operating profit, thanks to the commercial performance of the Elden Ring expansion.

FromSoftware expects a similar revenue increase in the next fiscal year, primarily due to the success of Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree. The development team at the studio consists of 423 employees and is part of Kadokawa Corporation, a public company in Japan. Recently, we heard that the developer of Elden Ring increased salaries by 11.8% and offered more to new graduates.
