Exciting Features and Tricks in the MX Player App for Android Users
When it comes to playing videos and watching movies on your smartphone, no other app works better than the famous MX Player app. This app not only has the ability to play various video file formats, but it can also smoothly play high-definition videos without any problems. The app has an easy-to-use and well-organized user interface along with gesture support that gives you easy control while watching.
But aside from that, MX Player has many other features that most users may not be aware of, so in this article, we have compiled some cool features and tricks in this app that are sure to enhance your experience.
1- Background Video Playback
By default, MX Player does not continue playing videos in the background, so if you are watching a movie or a regular video and you press the back, home, or recent button, the video will stop immediately. But if you need to keep the video playing in the background while you continue using your phone, you can simply go to settings – Player and scroll down to check the “Background play” option. From now on, when you exit the app while watching a video, it will continue in the background with a permanent notification so you can continue watching or pause the video temporarily.
2- Downloading and Adjusting Subtitles
MX Player excels in subtitle support compared to other apps when it comes to watching foreign movies on your smartphone. With MX Player, you can easily download suitable subtitles (such as Arabic) for the movie without much searching. Simply play the movie inside the app, click on the three dots on the top right, go to “Subtitle,” then “Online subtitles,” and press “Search.” Then click on “English” to select the subtitle language and select “Arabic,” check the “Enter your search text” option, and click OK. You will now see a list of subtitles suitable for the movie, select any subtitle and click Download to download and merge it with the movie automatically.
Not only can you download and adjust subtitles, but MX Player also offers many options to control how subtitles are displayed in the movie. If you go to the “Subtitle” section and click on “Settings,” a pop-up window will appear with the “TEXT” tab containing settings for font, size, text height, text color, adding a background to the text, adding borders, adding text shadow, and more. You will also find many subtitle display settings under the “LAYOUT” tab. Note that any changes in settings will be saved automatically.
3- Convert MX Player to a Music Player
If you are a new user of the MX Player app, you might think it is only for watching videos, and it is indeed excellent in that aspect. However, the app can also function as a professional music player – surpassing apps dedicated solely to this purpose. You can try it out for yourself by going to settings – audio and checking the “Audio player” option. When you return to the app’s main page, you will find a preview of folders containing audio files on your device, and you can play them directly like any music player.
In the Audio section, there are unique settings and options to control the music player, the most important of which is Volume boost, which increases the sound level to 200%, twice the default level, but only when using HW+ or SW decoders.
4- Change Colors and Theme of the Display Panel
One of the best features of the MX Player app is that it allows you to customize everything according to your preferences, giving it a personal touch and changing its appearance significantly with ease. Inside the settings, there is an option to change the theme and the overall look of the video display panel. Simply go to Settings, then Player, and under the Interface section, you will find the Theme option where you can choose from several available color options. Additionally, in the Style option, you can change the colors of the control bar that appears below the video, such as making the progress bar Material and changing its color, adding prominent borders to the buttons. Through the Screen option, you can adjust the display panel settings for screen brightness, hiding time and battery in the status bar, enabling/disabling screen rotation, and more.
If you want to change the overall appearance of the app’s graphical interface, you can do so through the Theme option in the List section of the settings.
5- Make Exiting Videos Harder for Kids
Kids can get excited while watching videos, causing them to accidentally exit the video or causing some annoyance from a child sitting next to you while watching a movie on your phone. In both cases, accidentally exiting the video can be very annoying, so MX Player provides an option to make exiting the app more difficult while watching videos, called “Kids lock.” You can activate this by clicking on the three dots in the top right corner, then Display, then Settings, and from there, open the Lock mode menu and select “Kids lock (+Touch effects).”
Now you can watch videos without interruption, as exiting the video has become somewhat more challenging, requiring you to tap on the corners of the screen, starting from the upper left and continuing to press the other corners in a clockwise direction.
6- Hide Folders and Videos
You can hide any folder containing videos within the MX Player app, which not only hides the folder from the app but also from the phone altogether. You can try it out by simply opening the app, long-pressing on the folder you want to hide, then pressing on the menu button in the top right corner and selecting “Hide,” and the folder will be hidden. Note that if the “Show hidden files” option is enabled in the file management app, the folder will remain visible to all.
7- Working in Split-Screen Mode
If you are using the MX Player app on an Android smartphone running Android Nougat 7.0 or above, you can continue watching the video inside the app while using another app through split-screen mode. This can be useful in some situations – simply play and view the video inside MX Player, and while the video is playing, long-press the Recents button and select the app you want to use alongside MX Player. The screen will then split into two, allowing you to watch the video and work in the other app simultaneously.
