What is a Roblox Character or Avatar?
The Roblox avatar refers to the entity that players can use to represent themselves within the online experience. It wasn’t long before “avatars” were officially known as Roblox characters. Therefore, we will use both terms interchangeably in our guide. But in the end, a Roblox character, avatar, or even Robloxian all refer to the same player entity.
Roblox avatars have a humanoid appearance with a blocky design, closely resembling the style of Minecraft. You can customize them as you wish, from facial expressions to clothing, everything is adjustable. Additionally, all characters can equip tools, items, and accessories to truly stand out.
Types of Roblox Characters
Roblox has two main types of characters:
Characters of type R6 follow a classic design with a more blocky style. On the other hand, R15 characters have a modern design that resembles human bodies more closely. Let’s go over each of them to understand their impact on your gaming experience.
Character R6
Avatar R6 in Roblox has a simple design following the classic blocky style of the game. This type of avatar has only six limbs, limiting movement and customization. So, if you don’t mind some restrictions while experiencing the classic Roblox style, you should choose this type of avatar.
Character R15
As you may have guessed, R15 avatars in Roblox have 15 limbs instead of the traditional six, allowing for creativity in customization, accessories, and movements. Due to this creative freedom, most players today prefer this type of avatar over the classic design. Additionally, you can achieve a blocky look or a humanoid-like model.
Collision Bounds
Collision refers to the interaction of player models with their surroundings and with other players. It is particularly useful in player vs. player (PvP) combat, where you need to consider any part of the character that can be hit before attacking another player. Fortunately, Roblox has released official models with collision bounds that make understanding this concept easier. All boxes surrounding the character’s limbs are considered hit areas (or known as collision boxes).
Customizing Your Roblox Avatar
By default, a Roblox character is created wearing different items based on the gender chosen by the player:
- Males: Pal hair, blue and black motorcycle shirt, smiling face, dark green jeans, and Male package.
- Females: Chestnut Cake hair, gray striped shirt with denim jacket, smiling face, pink jeans, and Female package.
- Undefined Gender: “My Favorite Pizza” shirt, smiling face, black jeans, and Skyler package.
Downloading Custom Clothes
While the Roblox Avatar Store offers a wide range of professionally created items, it may not be enough to meet everyone’s customization needs. Fortunately, you can create and upload your own items on Roblox servers for personal use or even for sale.
Furthermore, you do not have to start from scratch. You can simply use our template guides on pants templates or shirt templates in Roblox to create and upload custom clothing to Roblox. However, keep in mind that you will need to spend some Robux to upload the clothes and also to display them in the avatar store.
What are Emotes in Roblox?
Taking character customization to another level, we have emotes, which are custom animations that your avatar can perform. They serve as a means of expression and communication between players and can be used in any in-game experience. Just like clothing, you can find a variety of these emotes in the Avatar Store by default.
Whether using items from the Avatar Store or uploading custom designs, creating your character in Roblox is a great way to express yourself.
