However, recently Call of Duty fans were shocked to hear that they would have to pay real money in Black Ops 6 to access the enhanced audio feature. Activision had announced this feature for headphones to improve players’ performance and help them locate enemies and footsteps. This led players to say that this policy seems like a “pay for sound” strategy.
While it is true that you will pay for better sound in Black Ops 6, it is not as straightforward as it may seem at first glance.
The story began when Embody, a company dedicated to providing the best and most accurate “3D sound” possible, offered a premium presentation that would allow Black Ops 6 players to get a “custom profile” for $19.99. This is where the concept of paying for sound comes into play.
Every player entering Black Ops 6 can access a global profile created by Embody and based on the “Immerse Spatial Audio” system for free. It’s as simple as navigating to the game’s audio settings menu and selecting the “enhanced headphone mode.”
If you prefer to go beyond that and secure a custom profile that suits your individual preferences, you can pay $19.99 and get the “Immerse Gamepack.” With this deal, you will have access to the Embody system for five years. At $4 per year, this is not a bad deal, but it was enough to upset some players.
One of the most talked-about aspects in Black Ops 6 is the interactive and dynamic spatial audio. It has been greatly enhanced to allow for sound adjustments based on your local environment, and Embody was kind enough to provide everyone with a new and fantastic personalized profile for free. It is up to you if you want to pay $19.99 for a better experience, of course.
