YouTube began testing Premium Lite in Europe in 2021, but discontinued this tier in October 2023. The main benefit of the subscription was ad removal, without providing additional features like offline viewing or background playback that come with traditional YouTube Premium subscription.
The price of the new subscription in Australia is around 9 dollars per month, compared to 17 dollars for full YouTube Premium subscription. This pricing aligns with previous Lite pricing, making it a suitable option for those looking for a middle ground among the currently available subscriptions.
