This is very similar to the applications and services that create and generate images supported by artificial intelligence by writing and entering text phrases. First: What is the AI Wallpaper Tool in Android 14?
When setting a wallpaper for your phone screen, we usually find ourselves with two options and no third, either choose one of the photos taken and stored on the phone’s memory, or download images and wallpapers from the internet and set them as phone wallpapers. However, during the Google I/O 2023 conference where Google showcased the features of the Android 14 release after its official launch, there is now a third option that allows users to create unique wallpapers using artificial intelligence only. The new version supports a feature called “AI Wallpaper” that allows the user to get a new wallpaper by writing a text description of the image. This feature is based on Google’s text-to-image model called “Imagen” trained on a large dataset of images and texts to create realistic and innovative images from different commands.
Using the feature is very easy, but it is important to note that “AI Wallpaper” is currently available on the Google Pixel 8 series and the Samsung Galaxy S24 series, with Google promising to gradually roll out this feature to different types of other Android devices in the near future.
Second: How to Create Phone Wallpapers Using Artificial Intelligence
To create a unique wallpaper for your phone screen using artificial intelligence tools so that it does not resemble any other wallpaper, taken photo, or other artwork, you currently need to have a smartphone compatible with Android 14, such as the Google Pixel 8, or the Google Pixel 8 Pro, or one of the Galaxy S24 phones. First, we will explain how to create a wallpaper using artificial intelligence if the “AI Wallpaper” feature is supported on the phone, then we will explain how to do that on any other phone running Android 14 where the feature is not supported by default.
If the “AI Wallpaper” feature is supported on the phone, you can start using it by opening the “Settings” app, navigating to “Wallpaper & Style”, then pressing “Change Wallpapers”. You will then need to go to the “Creative” section and press on “Generative”. If you find this option, it means the feature is already supported on your phone. If you don’t find it, we will later explain how to add it forcefully.
After selecting this option, all categories representing the general framework of the wallpaper, such as “Terrain”, “Imaginary”, “Painting”, “Soft-focus”, etc., will be displayed. Simply choose the type of image you want to create. A preview image of the category you selected will appear on the screen along with a text description, allowing you to select keywords in the text to edit and replace them with new descriptive words and phrases that represent the wallpaper you want to create.
Each time you click on a prominent word, a list of options will appear for you to choose from until you create a sentence that represents the final image you want. Once you finish editing the text, press “Create” to start the application creating several wallpapers that match the description you entered.
You will need to wait a few seconds for the artificial intelligence tools to display the wallpapers you created, and you can click on the best wallpapers displayed to open them. If the result is not satisfactory, you can edit the text description by replacing some words with more accurate words or adding new details, and repeat this process until you get an acceptable result. Then press the checkmark at the top right of the screen to preview the wallpaper, then finally press the “Set” button. The wallpaper will now appear on your main screen or lock screen, depending on your choice.
As mentioned, the “AI Wallpaper” feature is only available on a limited number of Android devices running Android 14. However, there is still a successful trick to create screen wallpapers using artificial intelligence by using this feature. All you have to do is download the Google AI Wallpapers app as an APK file and manually install it. Then open the app and press on the “AI wallpapers” option at the top of the app screen, then select the category or general framework of the wallpaper you want to create and follow the same previous steps.
Note that the Google AI Wallpapers app may not work on some types of smartphones. In this case, you can uninstall it, go to the Google Play Store, download and install the Google Wallpapers app, or in the worst case, you can rely on an external model to create images using artificial intelligence like DALL·E, then save and set the resulting images as your phone wallpaper if you are very excited to try creating wallpapers using artificial intelligence and cannot wait for the feature to be officially available on various Android versions and devices.
