Indicators of deteriorating relationship between OpenAI and Microsoft

A report published by The New York Times revealed the deterioration of the relationship between OpenAI and Microsoft after five years of collaboration. This decline is due to financial pressures facing OpenAI, as well as the inadequate computing power provided by Microsoft, and disagreements between the parties regarding the basic rules of cooperation.
One interesting aspect is a clause in OpenAI’s contract with Microsoft, stating that Microsoft will be cut off from accessing OpenAI’s technology if OpenAI succeeds in developing what is known as Artificial General Intelligence (AGI), which can compete with human thinking. This clause aims to ensure that Microsoft does not misuse the technology, according to the report based on statements from 19 individuals familiar with the relationship between the two companies.
The management of OpenAI, led by
Sam Altman
, can determine when AGI is achieved. Altman previously indicated that the moment will be somewhat objective. He said, “The closer we get, the harder it is to determine how close AGI is, because I think it will be a more gradual and ambiguous transition than people imagine.”
This development raises questions about the future of the partnership between OpenAI and Microsoft, reflecting the challenges facing companies in the field of artificial intelligence.
