How to enable “Spellcheck and Auto-correct” in the “Edge Chromium” browser

After its official launch earlier this year and with significantly positive reviews from users, it can be said that the “Edge Chromium” browser has attracted a large sector of users either as the primary browser on computers or even as an additional browser alongside others such as Chrome and Firefox. However, like any new software, some aspects and settings are still mysterious to some users. Therefore, after highlighting the features of the new browser in previous articles, we will explain in several articles how to activate and adjust some features of the browser. Today, we start with the spell checking feature and how to enable it in the browser through this article.

It is known that the spell checking feature is responsible for detecting spelling errors while writing texts and displaying correct suggestions for those errors, which is very useful when writing and sending work-related emails, for example. The last thing you want is to send messages with spelling errors, especially in foreign languages.

To activate this feature, you need to go to the “Settings” page and select “Languages” from the side menu, then enable the “Check spelling” option next to the language you want. You will find a list of languages used in the browser, and all you have to do is click on the activate button next to this language. It will detect spelling errors and correct them when writing in that language.
If you do not find the language you want in the list, you can add any language as long as it is available in the browser by clicking on the “Add Language” button at the top of the page, then selecting the language you want from the list. It will be added to the list of languages and also to the spell checking list. All you have to do is activate the spell checking option for that language as we did in the previous step. Note that this feature is currently not available for some languages like Arabic, but in future updates, it will be activated for most languages.

After activating the feature, the language engine may recognize some words as spelling errors, such as names of people and companies. You can add these words to the exceptions list in the “Spell Checking” settings by simply clicking on the “Add or delete words” option at the bottom of the language settings screen, then typing the word you want to exclude and clicking on the “Add Word” option. It will be added to the list. To delete any word from the list, just click on the X symbol next to that word, and it will be removed from the list immediately.
After that, while typing any text and by right-clicking the mouse, you will find the “Check Spelling” option through which you can temporarily enable language correction for any language or activate correction for all languages by clicking on “All your languages” option. You can also activate correction while typing only by enabling the last option in the menu, “Check spelling when entering text”.
