Doom Becomes Emperor of the World in Marvel’s Next Big Thing
The Marvel’s Next Big Thing panel at New York Comic Con has just concluded, and the publisher announced the release of four new comic book titles in early next year.
Among them is Emperor Doom Ascending, a short series of five issues written by Ryan North with art by R.B. Silva and cover for issue #1 by Ben Harvey. The series is set to launch in February 2025, and it is said to be set six months after Doctor Victor Von Doom’s transformation into the Supreme Sorcerer…
“… then disappeared behind the closed borders of Latveria. For most people, there are events in the world enough to make Doom’s absence not a priority, and some time without him seems like a blessing. Few realize his true nature, the calm before the storm. It is the storm that has now arrived. The world woke up to a new reality: Doctor Doom, the Supreme Sorcerer, magically seized control of every broadcast medium on the planet and declared himself Emperor of the world – ruler of the new United Latveria! Shockingly, and impossibly, all the leaders of the Earth seem to be in agreement. Fortunately, whether it’s mind control or Doombots, anything that affects them has not affected Earth’s heroes – so they quickly form a strike team to stop Doom’s machinations. But will they succeed? And what happens when some begin to welcome their new Emperor with open arms, demanding one world under Doom’s rule? The biggest and most shockingly exciting Marvel event ever begins here, with the debut of EMPEROR DOOM #1.”
Wolverine will always enjoy a new title starting in January 2025 Wolverine Reborn, an ongoing series written by Chris Condon (Texas Blood) with art by Alessandro Capucci (Moon Knight). The first issue’s story is said to revolve around Magik, Colossus, and Omega Red putting out “their deadliest origins: The Winter Soldier! But who is the weapon behind the mask?”
The publisher revealed that Luke Cage will return to the shelves with Power Man: The Immortal, another short series of five issues released in February by writers Colin Kelly and Jackson Lanzing and art by Bernard Chang. Returning from outer space, “Guardian of the Future Luke Cage, powered by gamma energy and an iron fist, arrives in the modern Marvel world, only to discover an enemy and a mystery that will challenge even his amazing abilities!”
Lastly, there is Amazing Spider-Man Infinity Comic, the first “in a new amazing series of Infinity Comics exclusively on Marvel Unlimited.” Written by Scott Aukerman (Comedy Bang Bang) with art by Salva Espin, the title is said to only involve Spider-Man “on the brink of getting into some serious trouble… all starting with a BANG.” Amazing Spider-Man will be followed by Amazing Tenth Man stories in December and Amazing Avengers stories in January.
Marvel also felt it appropriate to talk about Phoenix #8, written by Stephanie Phillips with art by Marco Renna. The next chapter of the ongoing Phoenix epic is set to be released in February 2025, after Phoenix’s battle with Thanos and the Black Order where “they struggle for the fate of the Phoenix Force. At the same time, her enemies have become stronger than ever – with PERRIKUS’ alliance with ADANI now including the evil DARK GODS!
And that’s all that was written in this year’s Next Big Thing panel. Let us know in the comments if any of these titles caught your interest.
