Disney Halts Subscriptions to Disney Plus and Hulu Through Apple Store to Avoid Fees

Disney has taken a new step to stop subscriptions on its Disney Plus and Hulu platforms through the Apple App Store in order to avoid the high fees imposed by Apple on in-app transactions.

Apple imposes a commission of up to thirty percent on subscriptions, which has led Disney to direct new and returning subscribers directly through its websites instead of using the Apple Store.

Current subscribers will not be affected by this change, as they will continue to pay through Apple as usual, while users will still be able to watch content on Apple devices by logging into their accounts in the apps.

This change coincides with the increase in subscription prices on Disney Plus and Hulu, where Disney Plus prices have increased by two dollars as of October seventeenth, in a move aimed at boosting the company’s revenues. This step comes after Disney’s efforts to combat account sharing among users, which affected its revenues.

With this move, Disney follows in the footsteps of other companies like Netflix and Spotify, which have taken similar actions in the past to stop subscriptions through the iOS operating system and avoid Apple’s high commissions.
