Digital PS5 responsible for only 18% of platform sales in America.
Despite the decline in digital game sales year after year and the expectation of physical store editions disappearing within a few years, according to the latest study conducted by the market research company Circana, 82% of PS5 sales in the United States currently come from the disc drive edition, while only 18% come from the digital edition.
Despite Sony’s efforts to increase the popularity of digital editions, such as cost reduction and the release of the exclusively digital PS5 Pro, gamers still prefer to spend more to have the opportunity to play physical games. The results show that customers still prefer physical games, and the ease of reselling physical games may be a factor in this choice.
Analyst data from Matt Piscatella indicates that digital version sales of the PS5 reached 40% in September of this year, but the overall PS5 sales percentage remained at only 18%, while the disc drive version continued to hold 82%.
PS5 maintained its dual dominance in the American market in September in terms of units sold and total revenue, with the Nintendo Switch taking second place in terms of revenue sales, while the Xbox Series took second place in terms of sales volume.
