Development of the canceled Battle Royale mode for Halo Infinite could have drastically changed it

Certain Affinity was working on what could have been a game-changing “Royal Battle” mode in Halo Infinite, according to former studio design director Mike Clopper.

The support studio, based in Austin, Texas, has been collaborating on parts of the Halo and Call of Duty series since 2007, as well as shooting games like Left 4 Dead and Doom.

Clopper worked with the Xbox studio formerly known as 343 Industries on Halo Infinite for several years, during which information about the development of the Royal Battle mode was leaked but never officially confirmed, and the designer continued:

I led a large team of designers working on the canceled Battle Royale mode for Halo, I believe this product could have been a radical change in the series. We loved playing and working on it, it was a great experience despite its cancellation.

It is worth noting that Microsoft recently renamed 343 Industries as Halo Studios and confirmed that they are working on multiple games being developed using Unreal Engine 5.
