Detailed Explanation of the Story of Silent Hill 2 – Part Three

Maria asks James if she resembles his late wife, to which James explains that she is almost identical to his deceased wife, except for her hair style and clothing.

She tells him her name is Maria and says, “I don’t look like a ghost, do I?” She then tries to prove she is not a ghost by touching James’ hand and placing it on her chest. James quickly pulls his hand away, confirming to himself that she is not his wife. He apologizes for the misunderstanding and turns to leave.

Maria asks him where he is going. He says he is going to look for Mary and asks if she has seen her. Maria feels confused because he just told her that Mary had died. James explains the story related to the letter.

Maria informs him that she has not seen Mary and asks if this was their “special place” in town. James thinks for a moment and says it might have been the hotel where they stayed. Maria responds, “So, the hotel was your ‘special place’, wasn’t it? I bet it was.”

James does not take this well and turns to leave again. Maria tells him she was just “joking” and then points out that he is going in the wrong direction. James starts to leave and Maria follows him. Surprised, he asks her if she is planning to go with him, to which Maria replies, “Were you going to leave me here with all these monsters?”

Maria then adds, “I look like Mary, don’t I? You loved her, didn’t you?” Her tone changes from pleading to resentful, “Or maybe… you hated her.”

Eddie tells the girl that he did not do anything like that, and she calls him a “fat coward”, adding that he told her the police are looking for him.

Eddie admits he does not know if the police are looking for him, but he was afraid and ran from something. The girl asks him why he does not apologize if he did something wrong, to which Eddie replies, “There’s no point. They won’t listen. No one will ever forgive me.”

When James enters the room, Eddie asks him if the girl found Mary yet. James sees that Eddie is still eating pizza but Laura is not around. He asks Eddie if he is alone, and Eddie says he is not. A green ball rolls towards them as the little girl opens the door and leaves.

James calls out for her to wait and tries to convince Eddie to help him catch up to her. Eddie asks for the reason, and here we find out that the girl’s name is Laura. This is where we get the best dialogue line in the series, as James asks, “The town is full of monsters! How can you sit and eat pizza?!”

Eddie reveals that Laura told him she was fine and that he would hinder her if he tried to help her. James leaves the room annoyed and exits through the same door Laura left from.

Maria returns to the entrance panting. James asks her if a little girl passed by here, and Maria tells him she tried to catch up to Laura, but she was too quick.

They head in the direction Laura took, eventually reaching what seems to be a dead-end. Maria points out that Laura crossed through a small gap between buildings. James realizes that an adult cannot pass through, and asks Maria if there is another way.

Maria points to a nearby door and says they can cross through that building. They head towards it to discover the door is closed. But there’s no need to worry, as Maria has the keys for some reason. One of the keys was, apparently, hidden in her bra.

They enter the building, revealing it to be a strip club. Why not?

Anyway, the two leave the club and see Laura enter a nearby hospital, which represents the next level of the game: Brookhaven Hospital.

James and Maria follow Laura inside the hospital and begin to explore the place, encountering various puzzles and finding notes about the patients. It is worth noting that this is a psychiatric hospital, of course.

They stop in a room on the third floor, where Maria asks James to wait. She tells him she feels a bit tired and takes out a bottle of pills. She reassures him that she is just suffering from a headache due to alcohol. She tries to stand up, but James puts his hand on her shoulder and tells her she should rest, promising to return as soon as he finds Laura.

James sets off alone for a while, eventually reaching the roof of the hospital. There is not much here (unless the player is seeking a specific ending), but as James prepares to leave, he hears a familiar scraping sound.

Yes, Pyramid Head appears again, striking James and dropping him from the roof to the solitary confinement cells on the third floor. While this may seem bad, it turns out to be beneficial, as the walls in the cell he fell into contain a necessary symbol for progressing in the game.

With more exploration, James reaches a section of the first floor. In one of the patient rooms there, he finds Laura playing with stuffed bears.
