DCU: Confirmation of all films and TV shows so far
DC is set to make a huge comeback through the new DC Universe film and TV show lineup. This upcoming cinematic universe, overseen by James Gunn and Peter Safran, will revitalize the franchise with a new timeline filled with unique comic book characters.
With the franchise featuring creative heroes like Superman, Batman, and lesser-known characters like Booster Gold and The Authority, fans have a lot to look forward to in the coming years. As fans await the next chapter of superhero media, here are all the confirmed films and TV shows for the DCU so far.
The Commandos (2024)
The new DC Universe will officially kick off with a seven-episode animated series written by James Gunn himself. The show will see Amanda Waller forming a new black ops team after being prevented from putting “humans” in danger with the Suicide Squad.
This series will introduce a more “beastly” successor to Task Force X led by Rick Flag Sr. and starring newcomers in DC like Maria Bakalova, Anya Chalotra, Zoë Chao, Frank Grillo, David Harbour (Stranger Things season five), Alan Tudyk, and Indira Varma.
Superman (2025)
The first film in the DCU, Superman, premiering on July 11, 2025, will naturally revolve around the new Man of Steel, played by David Corenswet.
This film takes place in a world where superheroes have long existed, and Superman will face off against the villain Lex Luthor while dealing with what seems to be a new version of the Justice League, and “The Engineer,” a powerful entity affiliated with the Authority. Superman has never had a solo film of this magnitude before, so it must serve as an exciting introduction to the new DC universe.
Peacemaker Season 2 (2025)
Peacemaker will feature the second season of the honorable hero’s team with his friends in eight new episodes written by Gunn. It is unknown how the story will be affected by the recent timeline reboot for DC.
But given the ending of the first season, the show is likely to depict Peacemaker still haunted by the death of his father after killing him. With Rick Flag Sr. also involved in the show, it must connect to The Commandos and address the still-grieving Peacemaker’s guilt over Junior’s death in Suicide Squad.
Batman: Bold and the Brave
For the first time in live-action, DC will feature Batman fighting crime with his biological son, Damian Wayne/Robin. Directed by Andy Muschietti, known for directing the 2017 horror film It, and 2023’s The Flash. Although the latter didn’t fully resonate with audiences, Muschietti did a fantastic job at presenting two versions of Batman by Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton.
Muschietti directing a feature-length film about the Dark Knight and his Bat-family must give Caped Crusader the standalone, exciting film that he has never received in the DC Extended Universe.
The Lanterns
Described by Gunn as a cosmic cop story inspired by True Detective, this series will follow Green Lanterns Hal Jordan and John Stewart as they investigate a murder in the heart of America. The Lanterns has already assembled a real team of creators, including actor Chris Mundt (Ozark), comic book writer Tom King, and Damon Lindelof (HBO’s Watchmen). DC has also cast Kyle Chandler (Friday Night Lights) and Haroon Pir to play Jordan and Stewart respectively.
Swamp Thing
Swamp Thing is described by Gunn as a “very dark horror story” about the origins of the monstrous hero set apart from the rest of the DCU. The film will be produced by writer and director James Mangold, known for leaving his mark in the superhero genre with the successful 2017 film Logan. Given the other stories in his cinematic oeuvre, Mangold is likely to deliver a dark and tragic film as he tells the story of Alec Holland being reborn as the un-cheerful Green Giant.
U.N.I.O.N.
Based on characters created by the WildStorm comic stories, the film will see the members of U.N.I.O.N. coming together and interacting with the main heroes in the DC Universe. Gunn confirmed that a writer has been hired for the film, although his identity remains mysterious.
The Engineer, a prominent member of the WildStorm team Superman, is likely to set the stage for U.N.I.O.N. story.
Gold Booster
This Max series will follow everyone’s favorite Golden Boy as he travels from the future to our present day to use his advanced technology to become a superhero and make people love him.
Gunn claims that this series is essentially a “superhero story of imposter syndrome,” which must offer a unique look at this genre in a world full of costumed crime fighters.
Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow
This film directed by Craig Gillespie and written by Anna Nogueira is adapted from Tom King’s recent comic book of the same name. This epic science fiction story will depict Kara Zor-El struggling to survive on a part of the planet Krypton before coming to Earth. With Batwoman star Meili Allcock playing Supergirl, the film will show the confrontation of the Last Daughter of Krypton against the comedic villain: Krem of the Yellow Hills, played by Matthias Schoenaerts.
Untitled Teen Titans Film
Following Max’s Jabberjaw, DC has paved the way for a new iteration of the team in a recently announced live-action action film. It is unknown which heroes will form the titular team.
But since Damian Wayne was introduced in Batman: Bold and the Brave, and the events of the film are likely to be tied to the Teen Titans, where young Robin joins the team as he does in the comic stories. Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow writer Anna Nogueira will also write the screenplay for this film.
Untitled Blue Beetle Series
After the 2023 Blue Beetle, the armored hero will return in this complementary animated series. Actor Xolo Maridueña will reprise his role from the original film as the novel’s hero Jaime Reyes in the show.
According to Deadline, the film’s executive producer Miguel Puga will serve as the show’s director, while the film’s director and screenwriter Angel Manuel Soto and Gareth Dunnett Alcocer will return as EPs for the series.
