Windows 10 displays notifications for applications through a popup window that appears in the bottom right corner of the screen by default. While some users may want to change the display location of notifications, Windows does not allow that. Some websites have provided a method to change the value of “DisplayToastAtBottom” in the registry to change the display location of notifications, but this option only worked in early versions of Windows 10 and was removed before the final release of Windows 10.
As of the May 2020 update for Windows 10, there is no built-in option to change the display location of notifications to the top right corner, top left corner, or elsewhere. However, there are still some ways you can use to move popup windows to other corners of the desktop screen until the feature is fully included in Windows 10.
Disable or Hide Notifications for a Specific App
As mentioned earlier, the integrated notification system in Windows 10 does not allow changing the display location of notifications. However, there is at least a way to disable or hide them. You can disable all notifications by going to Settings, then System, and navigating to Notifications & Actions from the sidebar on the left. In this window, you can turn off notifications for any app.
Additionally, you can hide notifications for a specific app, so they do not appear on the desktop but silently show up in the Windows Action Center, where you can review them later. To do this, click on one of the apps, then uncheck “Show notification banners” and enable “Show notifications in action center.”
After that, notifications for that app will disappear from the bottom right corner of the screen, and you can view them by pressing Win+A to open the Action Center or clicking on the notification icon on the right side of the taskbar.
Utilize Built-in Notification Settings in Apps
It is clear that the built-in notification system in Windows 10 is not very flexible, which is why many Windows apps opt for their own notification systems. Some apps support both the built-in Windows 10 notification system and the app-specific notification system.
For example, the Slack app supports both systems. If you go to the Preferences menu in the app and scroll down, you will see that the app allows you to choose between using the Windows 10 notification system or the app-specific notification system. By selecting the app’s notification system, you can change the display location of notifications to any part of the screen unlike the Windows 10 notification system, which does not allow changing the display location.
Telegram app also has similar settings. If you open the settings window and choose Notifications, you can uncheck “Use windows notifications” and then select any corner of your screen to display Telegram app notifications.
This option may not be available in all apps, as it depends on the app developer. If you wish to change the display location of notifications as a Windows 10 user, you will have to wait for the app you use to offer its own notification system. You can check the settings of any app to see if it has this option or not.
