Automatically switch to mobile data when Wi-Fi signal is weak on Samsung phones.
Aside from most Android smartphones, Samsung phones have many features that you may take a long time to discover them all. In this topic, we highlight a feature that some may overlook, which works to activate the phone’s data as soon as you move away from the router, ensuring the phone’s continuous connection to the internet. For example, if you move to a distant room and the Wi-Fi signal weakens, Wi-Fi will be turned off and mobile data will be automatically enabled in the background. This feature is also essential to ensure the continuity of internet connection when leaving home, helping you locate your phone if it gets lost or stolen. Simply put, instead of manually turning on mobile data, the phone can do it for you at the right time.
First Method: Using Intelligent Wi-Fi Feature
In Samsung’s One UI interface, all advanced Wi-Fi settings are under one section called Intelligent Wi-Fi, which includes many useful options like automatically disabling Wi-Fi when leaving home, alerting when connecting to a suspicious network, automatically connecting to a known hotspot, and monitoring the quality of the current Wi-Fi network and enabling mobile data when the network speed slows down, instability occurs in the connection, or the connection is lost completely. The only condition for this option to work is to keep mobile data permanently enabled.
To access this option, simply open “Settings” from the apps menu or the quick settings panel, then go to the “Connections” section and tap on “Wi-Fi” at the top of the menu. Make sure you are connected to a Wi-Fi network and have mobile data activated, then press the menu button ( ⁝ ) at the top left and choose “Intelligent Wi-Fi” to display the options we mentioned in the previous paragraph. Now, activate the “Switch to mobile data” option. You can click on this option to control some settings such as not automatically switching to mobile data when connecting to certain Wi-Fi networks or making apps request permission before using mobile data to access the internet.

Second Method: Using Bixby Routines Feature
In this method, we rely on the Bixby Routines feature – one of the most powerful features in Samsung phones! Through it, you can create important shortcuts that greatly simplify your life. You can see actual examples by reviewing our previous topic: 10 Amazing Uses of Bixby Routines. Therefore, we can create a simple shortcut that involves disabling Wi-Fi and enabling mobile data as soon as the Wi-Fi signal drops below two bars, for example.
You can access the Bixby Routines feature on Samsung phones by opening “Settings” and then going to the “Advanced Features” section where you will find the “Bixby Routines” option, or go to the “Modes and Routines” section from the settings page. If you cannot find this option, your phone may not support the feature due to using an old Android version or using One UI Core interface. In this case, you can try downloading the Bixby Routines app independently and installing it by downloading the APK file to your phone, but we cannot guarantee the success of this method in getting the feature compulsorily.
In general, in the Bixby Routines screen or Modes and Routines, make sure to select the “Routines” section from the bottom bar to set up a new “Shortcut” routine from scratch by clicking on the plus sign ( + ) at the top. On the next screen, click on the option “Add what will trigger this routine” and from the menu that appears, scroll down and choose “Wi-Fi signal strength” and select the signal strength (through the number of conditions displayed in the icon) at which the switch to mobile data should occur.
After that, when returning to the screen to add a new routine, click on the option “Add what this routine will do” and from the menu, select “Connections,” then click on “Wi-Fi,” select “disabled,” and from the same menu, click on “mobile data” and select “enabled,” then click “Done.”
After completing this process, review the details of the routine and modify it if needed, such as adding actions you want to execute when the Wi-Fi signal drops on the phone. Finally, click “Save” and set a name and icon for the new routine among the available options, then click “Done” to activate the routine immediately. From now on, when the Wi-Fi signal becomes weak or you move far away from the router, the phone will automatically disable Wi-Fi and activate mobile data. Conversely, when the Wi-Fi signal is strong, Wi-Fi will be reactivated while mobile data is disabled.
