Artificial Intelligence Technology Threatens the Future of Stadium Managers and Other Jobs

With the advancement of technology, it seems that the profession of stadium referees is facing a major threat as it is set to be replaced by artificial intelligence by 2025. A new technology called Electronic Line Calling (ELC) will be used to officiate games instead of human referees.

According to the British newspaper “Daily Mail,” a recent study revealed the jobs at risk due to the advancement of robots, including jobs that require years of training and qualifications. The study analyzed over 24,000 patent applications related to artificial intelligence filed with the US Patent and Trademark Office between 2015 and 2022.

The results showed that many jobs that were not previously considered at risk are now in danger, with risks not limited to just routine tasks, but also encompassing non-routine tasks such as diagnosing medical conditions, programming computers, and tracking flight paths.

At the top of the list of at-risk jobs was the cardiac and vascular technologist, a job that requires a fellowship or bachelor’s degree in cardiac and vascular technology, with an estimated average salary of around £37,000 annually. The research team indicated that up to 60% of the tasks performed by cardiac and vascular technologists could be replaced by AI-supported devices.

Following that was the sound engineer job, which involves setting up equipment in recording studios, while the nuclear medicine technologist job came in third, responsible for preparing and administering radioactive medications. Despite the physical mobility required for the sound engineer job, many of their tasks rely on computers.

Other at-risk jobs include orthodontists, security guards, radiologists, and space scientists, indicating that healthcare, scientific, and technical services are the most affected fields by developments in artificial intelligence.
