Apple unveils Apple Watch Series 2 in a new color and a “crucial” health feature
Apple has introduced an update to the Apple Watch Ultra 2 that was launched last year, without revealing a completely new generation. The upgrade includes the addition of an option for black titanium color, as well as a new feature that allows for detecting breathing interruptions during sleep.
Apple held its annual event today at the company’s headquarters in the United States under the title “It’s Glow Time,” where the company unveils the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Pro, new earphones, AirPods 4, and smartwatches including Apple Watch Series 10, without a new generation of Apple Watch Ultra as previously rumored.
During the press conference, Apple revealed upgrades to the Apple Watch Ultra 2 that was launched last year, confirming that the upgrades include a new health feature that uses the built-in accelerometer sensor to analyze breathing data and alert the user if signs of mild or severe breathing interruptions during sleep are detected.
This feature will be available not only in the Ultra 2 watch but also in the new Series 9 and 10 watches, and will be available in over 150 countries worldwide this month.
The new model of the Apple Watch Ultra 2 will come with a range of bracelets that match the new black color, including the Trail Loop, Alpine Loop, and Ocean, in addition to a new shiny black titanium Milanese Loop strap.
The new watch will operate on watchOS 11, which comes with new features like Smart Stack, which displays widgets and live user activities.
The system also has features for long-term fitness and health tracking, including Training Load, which indicates the effort compared to normal levels, and the new Vitals app that allows the user to monitor health indicators such as breathing rate and sleep duration.
The strong performance and long battery life are still among the main features of the watch, providing up to 36 hours of regular use or even 72 hours in power saver mode.
For the first time in the Apple Watch series, the company announced a special edition in collaboration with Hermès, featuring a strap inspired by nautical designs and an exclusive watch face.
The prices of the new model start at $799, while the price for the special Hermès edition is $1,399.
Users can pre-order the watch starting today, and it will be available in stores on September 20th.
