Apple plans to release iOS 18.1 update next week, which will bring new features including support for hearing aids through AirPods Pro 2 and artificial intelligence updates across its devices.

One of the prominent features in this update is the use of AirPods Pro 2 as hearing assistant devices. Since late 2022, companies have been allowed to sell hearing devices directly to the public without a prescription, and Apple announced this feature during its conference in September, after receiving approval from the US Food and Drug Administration.

The feature includes a test that helps users determine if they are experiencing hearing loss, and if confirmed, they are advised to undergo a specialized medical examination. Users will also be able to set up AirPods to function as hearing aids.

Through this feature, AirPods Pro 2 will be able to enhance and dynamically adjust sound quality based on user preferences in real-time. While wearing earbuds during conversations may seem strange to some, this enhancement presents a great opportunity for those with hearing impairments to benefit from technology at a lower cost compared to traditional hearing devices that may cost thousands of dollars, while AirPods Pro 2 is sold for only $249.

Another feature that the update will bring is Apple Intelligence, which Apple unveiled at the previous developer conference.

This feature includes new artificial intelligence tools, such as smart voice recording and the ability to transcribe audio content to applications like email, notes, and text pages.

It also includes tools for improving writing, such as spell-check and grammar rules. Apple is expected to release more improvements and features for this tool in future updates.
