Another idea correction: Why turning off your mobile phone from time to time does not help protect the battery.
Since the adoption of lithium batteries in mobile phones, a series of false myths have emerged about them, such as charging our mobile phone through a computer will damage the battery, or that batteries perform worse when cold or that we have to wait until it reaches 0% battery to charge it…
Next, we will debunk another of those false myths and explain why turning off your mobile phone from time to time does not protect its battery.
Certainly, at some point in recent years, someone recommended to us to turn off the smartphone from time to time to extend the battery life, but this is not the case, at least because our phones are equipped with lithium batteries.
This is a completely untrue myth because before the arrival of lithium-ion batteries, nickel-metal hydride batteries were the rechargeable batteries found in mobile phones, and with these batteries, we could not accurately read the charge level without fully discharging and then recharging them. This means that if half of these batteries were discharged and recharged, the points they lost were not regained.
But this does not happen with current lithium-ion batteries, as these batteries are able to read their state regardless of their charge level, and when the Android smartphone is turned on and not in use, the battery voltage remains practically the same. This means that even if we turn off the mobile phone from time to time, we are not giving the battery a rest, and therefore, this action will not help us preserve the battery life.
To extend the life of our mobile phone battery, experts recommend not allowing our smartphone to discharge below 20% and charging it only up to 80%. To facilitate this task, we have an Android system application called AccuBattery, which is a completely free application that you can download from the link we leave below these lines, which warns us when the device’s charge reaches 80%, shows us the battery’s health status and displays power consumption for each application.
Finally, if you have a smartphone with fast charging, we recommend not using this charging method too much and using it only when necessary, because the slower you charge the phone, the longer the battery life.
