Amazing Features and Benefits of Using the Google News App Effectively
Google released the Google News app earlier this year for both Android and iOS devices. This app allows you to follow news from around the world and from multiple trusted sources based on your interests, providing you with the best news reading experience. Google has achieved this by incorporating various features and functionalities that many users may not be aware of, but fear not! Let me shed some light on some useful tips and tricks to get the most out of the Google News app on Android.
Artificial intelligence plays a significant role in the Google News application. When you first use the app, news from around the world is displayed randomly. Over time, Google’s algorithms work to bring you the best news content based on your geographical location and current interests by identifying the most interesting news for you. However, Google may sometimes miss the mark and display news unrelated to your preferences.
Fortunately, Google News allows you to select important and favorite topics and news, informing Google about your interests. To do this, open the Google News app on your phone, go to the Favorites tab, click the “+” icon, select the topics and news categories you prefer, and add specific news sources that will be prioritized in news display. This way, Google will understand your preferences and provide you with the best news from around the world.
Second: Follow Full Coverage of Important Events
Sometimes there are specific topics, events, and stories that are so controversial that you want to know every detail and any news related to that event. In such cases, when you want a comprehensive coverage of a particular event, you can utilize the “Full Coverage” feature available in the Google News app, where news, videos, and anything related to the topic are covered. Simply click on the multicolored button below the news, and it will take you to the full coverage section.
Third: View News in Mini Cards
Google News has a very intuitive, beautiful, and simple user interface where popular news is displayed prominently, and the latest news is shown in smaller cards, making browsing and navigating between news articles unique compared to other apps. However, sometimes you may want to see more news on the screen. Instead of displaying one or two news articles, you can view 3 or 4 or more by shrinking the size of the images and displaying news in mini cards. Just click on the circular profile icon in the top right corner, then click on Settings, and enable the “Mini cards” option.
Fourth: Translate News from Sources into Arabic
If you are following a foreign source in English, French, or any other language different from your native language and you want to read news from this source in Arabic, you don’t need to copy the title of each news article and go to the Google Translate app to translate it. In fact, you don’t need to do anything because Google Translate is already integrated into the Google News app. Just open the page of the source, click on the menu button in the top right corner, choose “Translate,” select Arabic in the Translate to window, and click Translate to see all the news in Arabic.
Fifth: Control Data Usage
If you don’t want to exhaust your data plan while using the Google News app, you can manage and control your data usage. Simply go to the Settings page, activate the “Data Saver” mode, disable “Autoplay videos,” and explore other options such as preventing articles from loading on mobile data or only loading when the phone is charging to reduce battery consumption, among other settings.
