Alphabet relocates Gemini app development team to DeepMind to boost innovation in artificial intelligence.
Sandar Pichai, CEO of Alphabet, Google’s parent company, announced the transfer of the “Gemini” artificial intelligence development team to the “DeepMind” group led by Demis Hassabis, recently awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry.
The Gemini application is the main interface that users rely on to interact with artificial intelligence models developed by DeepMind. This decision aims to enhance collaboration between Google and DeepMind teams, to accelerate the development of new models and improve post-training efficiency.
In addition to this change, Alphabet announced the transfer of Google’s assistant teams working on smart home devices to the “Platforms and Devices” department, in order to improve coordination between software teams and company products, which will positively impact user experience.
Furthermore, Sandar Pichai appointed Raghavan Pravakar as “Chief Technologist” to enhance technical directions and innovation culture within the company. Raghavan previously served as Vice President and was responsible for several key products including search engine, news service, and advertisements, among others. Nick Fox will now take the lead on these products following Raghavan’s departure.
In an internal message, Pichai expressed his gratitude to Pravakar for establishing a strong foundation in the knowledge and information teams, emphasizing the importance of leadership that contributed to the development of these teams.
